Organically Roland Farm is owned and operated by Jason Alexander Roland and Ami Roland.
We are a small growing operation in Lexington, South Carolina that focuses on organic, biodynamic and sustainable growing methods for fruits and vegetables. We specialize in heirloom tomatoes and Jerusalem Artichokes/Sunchokes among many others.
Our philosophy:
Seeds, sustainable land practices and delicious vegetables have been my passion since childhood. I love growing nutrient dense food in our harsh, but forgiving climate. I believe our soil, our climate and our overall health is in danger of being lost, and keeping small chunks of land chemical free and growing things the "right" way is the only way that I can help reverse climate change. At Organically Roland, we commit ourselves to sustainability, synthetic chemical free living and growing some of the best veggies in the southeast!
Meet Jason
My name is Jason Roland and I am an organic market gardener. I have sold to restaurants, at farmers markets and most recently, CSA's since I was 17 years old. We have grown gardens for as long as I can remember. My childhood was full of fresh and preserved foods from our land. My single parent mother did this out of tradition and necessity. We were poor. Worse than some, better than others, but often, the gardens provided the only food we had. And I fell in love with it. The rhythms of the land. The scent of freshly turned soil. The earthworms wriggling in your hand while watching seeds sprout. Every single aspect of it, from good to bad, I love. I have screamed and cursed the land, while kissing and praising it all at the same time. Soil speaks. My Cherokee ancestors knew this, and why many have fallen away from its voice, I still hear it. We converse daily even though we don't understand each other's languages.
I taste a pinch of soil in every plot each season the same as my grandfather and his father did. If it's sweet and and mellow, your veggies will grow, if sour and bland, you need more lime and compost. And let me assure you, the earth is sweet. No laboratory soil test can tell you that.
I love that I get to wake up each day and go outside to greet my crops. The varieties, colors, textures, tastes, fragrance and habit of each vegetable keeps me in a state of wonder and hope. I love doing what I do. This is not a job for me, it's an honor, a high calling to work with Mother Nature to sustain myself, my family and my customers.
Meet Ami
My name is Ami Roland and I'm the other half of Organically Roland. I'm originally from Hampton, South Carolina. I came to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina, where I got a bachelor's degree in history. My interest in farming started when I was little. My family always had big gardens and plenty of animals. We grew and preserved most of the food that we ate throughout the year. I met Jason in 2017 and we got married a year later. Ever since, I've been helping him grow our business and expand to where we are today. My interests have veered off into mushroom cultivation and foraging. I hope to contribute that skill set to the farm and to our wonderful customers in the future!
